The Fall 2026 Trend Report: What We’re Actually Wearing This Season
The Fall 2026 Trend Report: What We’re Actually Wearing This Season
Fall girls, this one's for you.
We've spent months buying, planning and obsessing over what's coming for the new season, and now we're finally getting to the good part: Fall 2026 fashion is starting to arrive.
So, what are we actually wearing this fall?
Think chocolate brown, relaxed denim, rugby stripes, suede, cozy texture, updated prep and just enough '70s influence to make everything feel a little more interesting.
At Johnny's Girl Boutique, we're less interested in trends you'll wear once and more interested in finding the pieces that make your existing wardrobe feel new again.
So consider this our official Fall 2026 Women's Fashion Trend Report the trends we're buying, how we're wearing them and the pieces you'll be seeing at Johnny's Girl this season.
1. Chocolate Brown Is the Color of Fall 2026
If there is one color defining our fall buy, it's brown.
Chocolate, cocoa, espresso, caramel we want all of it.
Brown is showing up across our Fall 2026 clothing, denim, sweaters and footwear, and we're treating it exactly like a neutral. Pair chocolate trousers with cream, wear brown denim with a striped knit, or go completely tonal with several shades of brown in one outfit.
And yes, brown absolutely works with black.
How we're wearing it: chocolate denim + cream knit + brown suede shoes.
2. Stripes Aren't Going Anywhere
The stripe obsession continues into fall, but it's getting a little moodier.
We're seeing classic stripes in navy, cream, chocolate, olive and other deeper colors, along with rugby-inspired designs and collared knits.
They're easy, timeless and make jeans feel instantly more styled.
How we're wearing it: an oversized striped sweater, relaxed denim and a retro sneaker.
3. Welcome to the New Prep
Preppy style is back but we're not talking about perfectly polished country club outfits.
Fall 2026's version feels relaxed and slightly undone.
Think rugby stripes, polos, collared sweaters, cardigans, contrast trim and classic pieces worn with relaxed denim.
It's a little collegiate, a little vintage and very easy to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe.
4. Denim Is Getting Relaxed
We're still taking a break from ultra-skinny denim.
For Fall 2026, we're loving wide-leg jeans, barrel silhouettes, cropped wide legs and trouser-inspired denim.
The shape is doing more of the work, which means your outfit doesn't have to.
Pair them with a simple tee now, add a sweater as Wisconsin temperatures start dropping and finish with a sleek boot later in the season.
5. Suede Is Having a Major Moment
You can't talk about Fall 2026 fashion without talking about suede.
We're especially loving it in footwear, where shades of caramel and chocolate instantly make sneakers, mules, ballet flats and boots feel ready for fall.
You'll see plenty of this trend in our upcoming Dolce Vita and Gola footwear.
6. Ballet Flats Get an Update
The ballet flat is staying but she's getting a little more interesting.
For fall, look for Mary Jane-inspired straps, studs, rich suede and deeper colors that give the traditionally feminine shoe a little edge.
Wear them with relaxed denim, trousers, skirts and dresses now, then add tights or socks when Wisconsin starts getting chilly.
7. Retro Sneakers Are the New Everyday Shoe
The retro sneaker continues its reign into fall.
Instead of bright summer shades, we're moving toward khaki, olive, caramel and gum soles that work naturally with fall wardrobes.
We're especially excited about the new Gola sneakers arriving at Johnny's Girl, including the Seattle Sneaker in Khaki.
8. Texture Is Everything
Fall dressing gets really good when texture comes back.
Chunky knits, open-weave sweaters, fuzzy finishes, suede and dimensional fabrics can make an outfit interesting without needing a ton of color or accessories.
This is especially good if you're someone who lives in neutrals.
Cream sweater + brown denim + suede shoe = simple, but definitely not boring.
9. Olive Is Basically a Neutral
One of our favorite colors returning for fall is olive green.
Wear it exactly how you'd wear denim, khaki or brown.
We especially love olive mixed with cream, chocolate, navy and camel for an earthy fall palette that feels effortless rather than overly seasonal.
10. A Little Boho Is Back
We're seeing a softer, more grown-up return to bohemian dressing.
Paisley prints, flowy blouses, longer skirts, earthy colors and subtle '70s references are making their way back into fall wardrobes.
The key is not wearing all of it at once.
Pair a printed blouse with simple denim or style a flowy skirt with a clean knit to make the trend feel modern.
11. Matching Sets Aren't Just for Lounging
We're still not giving up comfort.
Matching knit sets and elevated separates make getting dressed ridiculously easy while still looking put together.
Wear the pieces together for a tonal look or split them up and suddenly you have three outfits instead of one.
That's the kind of closet math we support.
12. Animal Print Is a Neutral Again
Yes, we're saying it.
Animal print is a neutral.
For Fall 2026, we're especially loving it in smaller doses a printed skirt, shoe or accessory paired with simple knits and solid colors.
It gives an otherwise classic fall outfit just enough personality.
What We're Buying for Fall 2026 at Johnny's Girl
The biggest theme behind our Fall 2026 buy isn't one specific trend.
It's wearability.
We want really good denim. Sweaters you'll actually reach for. Shoes that make an outfit. Interesting textures. Rich colors. And pieces that can be mixed with things you already own.
You'll see new Fall 2026 arrivals from brands including Gentle Fawn, Z Supply, Oliver Logan, Dolce Vita, Gola, Solar Eclipse and more arriving throughout the season.
